2009 Investment and job creation throughout the County
Satsop Development Park completed a $7M conversion of the former Turbine Building into a world-class manufacturing facility for Brown-Minneapolis Tank NW and its 80 employees.
WA Department of Transportation has narrowed the search to two sites, both located in Grays Harbor County for the construction of the large pontoons that will be used to replace the SR520 Bridge. During the construction, the project will employ between 250-300 workers. Site construction is expected to begin in late 2010.
Willis Enterprises completed relocation to 25 acres at the Port of Grays Harbor owned Terminal 3 in Hoquiam. The company, owned by Paul Willis, invested $2-3M into the project that will be barging and trucking wood chips from Terminal 3 for the first time in a decade.
Westway Terminals completed the construction and opening of their Grays Harbor Division. Company invested over $20M and employs 15, along with the longshore workers who will service the ship calls.
Satsop Development Park completed rehabilitation and restoration to the Parks industrial barge slip for use by BMT and other tenants, allowing oversized equipment along the Chehalis River to the Ocean.
Grays Harbor College completed the remodel of the College Cafeteria and Student Union at a cost of $180K, as well as a complete remodel of the Vocational/Maintenance building at a cost of $1.7M. The College will start construction on the $2.5M Childcare facility in 2010, along with the design of a new $40M Science, Math & Art Building.
Grays Harbor Community Hospital opened a $1.1M Wound Healing Center on East campus, as well as a $2.5M investment on expansion, improvements and upgrades to the Imaging Department.
Pacific Veneer, previously owned by the Weyerhaeuser Company, was purchased and reopened by Willis Enterprises and employees over 50.
Port of Grays Harbor will welcome regular shipments of Chrysler Automobiles to be handled by Pasha Automotive and shipped on Partner Shipping; Dorkum Inc. brought the first log export ship to the Ports docks since 2000; RPMM of Westport, began receiving seafood at their hoist facility at Firecracker Point; 2009 was a record year for AGP dry bulk shipments of soybean meal - more than 680,000 metric tons shipped through Grays Harbor; Work began on the Port Industrial Road to add turn lanes and safety improvements; Westport Marina boat launch improvements were completed, serving more than 7,000 users a year.
